About Me
Hi, I’m Mike, and I’m an enthusiast photographer drawn to wilderness and nature across Maine and the U.S. I’ve captured images from the coast to the mountains to the quiet backcountry of the northern woods. I hope to inspire others—in Thoreau’s spirit—, to value ‘wildness’, to stir a sense of wonder, and to remind us of our place in the natural world. Wildness is a feeling, not so much a habitat, something that reconnects us to nature, helps us appreciate its beauty, and, if we’re lucky, heals us. My photographs are as much about emotion as they are about vision.
After retiring from a healthcare career in 2022, I became a self-taught landscape photographer using Fuji and Nikon cameras. As a devoted nature photographer, I hold a deep, enduring respect for the natural world, and I try to let that show in my work. I create images of nature’s fragility, its threatened places, and its quiet resilience—how it can restore itself and, in turn, console us. Having grown up in Maine, I also celebrate many of the state’s varied landscapes in my photographs.
I live in Freeport with my wife and family. When I’m not out with my camera, you’ll find me hiking, planning the next road trip, cooking with friends, or getting far too competitive in board games with our three grown kids.
These photographs are my way of inviting you into the places that move me. I hope they bring a sense of wildness, calm, and wonder into your home. I believe these places matter deeply, and that paying attention—really seeing them—is the first step toward caring for and protecting what’s increasingly fragile.
